Engine Power
There are two engine options available for the 7 Series sedan, depending on trim level. The 740i is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder motor that produces 320 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. The 750i xDrive is propelled by a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that puts out an impressive 445 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque, which translates into a rush of acceleration.
Performance
Both the 740i and the 750i xDrive route power from their respective engines through a smooth shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. The 750i xDrive, with all-wheel drive and 4.4-liter V8, can reach 60 miles per hour from a standstill in just over 4 seconds; the rear-wheel drive 740i makes the trip only slightly off that mark thanks to its gutsy inline six. The 3.0-liter I6 is good for an EPA estimated fuel economy of 24 miles per gallon (mpg) in combined city and highway driving, while the larger V8 attains an EPA estimated 19 mpg in combined driving.
Interior
Standard features inside the refined cabin of the 740i are manifold, and include full power accessories, power adjustable steering wheel, power closing doors, and four-zone climate control. The 750i adds premium leather upholstery, power window shade, and a heads-up display. A variety of packages are available on both trim levels, such as an Autobahn package, with steering and dampening mods; a cold weather package, with heated seats and steering wheel; and model-specific Executive packages, with lighting and seating upgrades.
Safety Features
The 7 Series is equipped with a full suite of technology geared toward increasing safety such as automatic headlights and wipers, front and rear parking sensors, anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control, and airbags situated strategically throughout the cabin. Available driver's assistance packages on both trim levels provide optional collision mitigation, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and more.
