Trim Levels Exterior
The M2 rides on 19-inch forged aluminum double-spoke wheels and includes xenon headlights and keyless entry. The M3 sports 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive xenon headlights, and a sport body kit. The M4 is available as a coupe or convertible and comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, custom body panels, and a carbon fiber reinforced roof. The M5 comes with 19-inch alloy wheels and dual exhaust. The M6 is also available in coupe and convertible form, rides alloy wheels, and differs from its 6 Series brethren with styling accents and M badging. The X5 M is a luxury mid-size crossover vehicle with performance tires, a hands-free liftgate, and Motorsport insignia. Engine Power
The M2 is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine that produces 365 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque. The 3.0-liter six-cylinder found in the M3 and M4 runs on 425 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. The M5 and M6 feature a 32-valve double overhead cam 4.4-liter V8 that produces 560 horsepower standard and 500 pound-feet of torque. Motive power for the X5 M is provided by a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that produces 567 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque in this application, with the same power plant found in the X6 M.
Performance
An M2 can hit 60 miles an hour within 4.1 seconds, with an M3 coming in at 3.9 seconds when equipped with the optional seven-speed automated manual transmission. BMW claims an even 4 seconds to hit 60 for the M4 when properly equipped. The M5 is capable of turning in a similar time, while the M6 also crosses the line in just over 4 seconds. An innovative disc braking system brings all M vehicles down from speed very quickly, with short distances compared to the already good stopping distance of their mainstream counterparts. The X5 M can hit 60 in just 4 seconds; the X6 M is capable of hitting the mark in the same impressive time.
Interior
The M2 features dimming mirrors, leather upholstery, and 10-way power seats. The M3 includes well-bolstered leather upholstery with custom cloth inserts, automatic wipers, and carbon fiber accents throughout. The M4 boasts carbon fiber and matte aluminum trim, and a Harman Kardon audio system. The M5 has a touch screen and upgraded audio system. The M6 features premium interior trim, USB ports, power heated seats, and Bluetooth connectivity. The X5 M features a roomy leather cabin, full power accessories, and a Motorsport instrument cluster. The X6 M also features a large cabin, unique gauges, and a 10.2-inch widescreen display.
Safety Features
All M cars feature an array of safety features such as antilock brakes, stability and traction controls, and front and side curtain airbags. The BMW Assist emergency communication system is available on M Series vehicles and notifies you automatically in the event of a crash, as well as assist in the recovery of a stolen vehicle.
