The X3 is a crossover sport utility vehicle that BMW offers in four trim levels denoting all- or rear-wheel drive as well and engine type: sDrive28i, xDrive28i, xDrive28d, and xDrive 35i. Standard features include 18-inch wheels, automatic headlights, and LED foglights.

The X4 shares its underpinnings with the X3, but has a unique coupe style with a raked hatchback look that is all its own. The X4 is equipped with adaptive xenon headlights, and 18-inch wheels are standard on the X4 xDrive28i. The X4 xDrive 35i gets 19-inch wheels.

The X5 is a mid-size SUV with a 115-inch wheelbase and 16-foot overall length. A roof rack, 19-inch wheels, and rear spoiler are all standard. The X6 departs from the X5 by means of a similar sloping coupe roofline. The X6 has a unique stance and attitude, with 19-inch wheels, sunroof, LED fog lights, and auto-dimming side mirrors.
Engine Power
Power for the X1 is provided by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 228 horsepower. The X3 is equipped with one of three engines: a 240 horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel that produces 180 horsepower, and a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower.

The X4 shares the 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline four-cylinder and 3.0 turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with the X3, but does not have a diesel option. The X5 also offers a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder gasoline, a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel, and a potent 4.4-liter twin turbo V8 that cranks out 445 horsepower, while the X6 has the same engine lineup, minus the diesel.
Performance
The X1 is able to attain zero to 60 in 6.3 seconds while an X3 motor can do the same in just under 6 seconds. The X4 is capable of zero to 60 in 5.2 seconds in xDrive 35i trim. The X5 can reach 60 mph in under 5 seconds, and an X6 equipped with the same motor can pull off a zero to 60 time in just 4.6 seconds.
Interior
The X1 features power accessories, power memory seats, and BMW's "SensaTec" vinyl upholstery, while iDrive with 6.5-inch touchscreen handles the infotainment duties. The X3 cabin is slightly larger but similarly equipped. The X4 has a distinct center console with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and paddle shifters, Bluetooth connectivity, iDrive, and ambient lighting.

The X5 boasts a large touchscreen, premium soft-touch materials, and an upscale trim. The X5 also features third-row seating. The X6 does not have third-row seating due to its hatchback design, but it does boast the same upscale styling and premium materials with well-bolstered seating and a full suite of technology in the cabin.
Safety Features
All of the vehicles in the 2016 X Series line-up feature a variety of safety features such as self-drying anti-lock brakes, stability control and traction control systems, front and side curtain air bags, and active front head restraints. BMW Assist emergency telematics are available throughout the X Series, with crash notification and theft recovery assistance. Depending on model and trim level, enhanced safety technology is available, such as lane departure warning and crash mitigation, pedestrian warning, and blind-spot monitoring.

The BMW X Series marries high-performance luxury with the utility that was once only found in vehicles that were built on truck chassis.
