Trim Levels
The 2017 model has three trim levels: sDrive28i, xDrive28i, and xDrive35i. All three models come standard with high-end features like power-folding and heated side mirrors, privacy glass, LED fog lights, satin aluminum roof rails, and chrome tailpipe finishers. The xDrive35i adds on a power-operated panoramic moonroof with fully automatic glass panels and Xenon Adaptive Headlights. <p></p>All trim levels come standard with nonmetallic paint in Alpine White or Jet Black. Optional colors include Melbourne Red Metallic, Space Gray Metallic, and Black Sapphire Metallic.
Engine
There are two available engines. The first two trim levels come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine that generates 240 horsepower and a maximum torque of 260 pound-feet.<p></p>The xDrive35i model has a 3.0-liter six-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine. It produces 300 horsepower and a maximum torque of 300 pound-feet — that's powerful enough for you to go from zero to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds.
Performance
The X3 has great maneuverability; the Dynamic Stability Control adds the traction you need for precise handling. While the sDrive28i has rear-wheel drive, the upper trim levels have xDrive all-wheel drive to help you out with slippery road conditions. All three models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission with Sport and Manual mode. <p></p>The Brake Energy Regeneration feature helps to conserve energy by only activating the generator when you apply the brakes or take your foot off the accelerator. According to BMW, this feature improves fuel efficiency by up to 3 percent. <p></p>The estimated EPA for the first two trim levels is 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. For the xDrive35i, the estimated EPA is 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
Interior
All three trim levels come standard with eight-way power-adjustable front seats, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel with control for audio and Bluetooth technology, and burl walnut wood trim with pearl gloss chrome accents. The xDrive35i model adds on a one-year subscription to SiriusXM Satellite Radio and a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System.<p></p>SensaTec upholstery is standard for each model, though you can swap it out for Nevada Leather seating. The trim can be customized to colors such as Dark Copper High-Gloss and Brushed Aluminum. Other optional features include Wi-Fi Hotspot and a Cold Weather Package.
Safety Features
All models come standard with the Impact Sensor. After a crash, it automatically disconnects the fuel and starter from the battery, unlocks the doors, and turns on the hazard lights. Other features include a front and rear Head Protection System and Adaptive Brakelights. The BMW Assist eCall comes with an Emergency Request button. <p></p>The available Driver Assistance Plus Package includes more features, such as Lane Departure Warning, Active Blind Spot Detection, and Driving Assistant.
