2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe

GC=DEFYING EXPECTATIONS • GC= THE UNCONVENTIONAL
(DON’T SETTLE FOR LESS…)

Despite its name, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe (called GC for short) is a four-door coupe version of the second-generation 2 Series packed with power and performance. In fact, when it comes to the Gran Coupe, power comes from every angle in this all-new four-door sedan. Built on BMW’s new UKL2 modular platform, the GC sends power to all four wheels. This all-new vehicle is not only power-packed, but handsome to boot, showcasing BMW’s signature design elements. This vehicle will be offered in two trims at launch in the United States— the entry 228i xDrive and higher-performance M235i xDrive.

Here’s more….

Mainstream design
A combination of progressive coupe style with classic BMW sportiness, this all-new model  boasts a mainstream design that is also unique and combines a three-box layout with specific details front and rear. That is made clear in the latest big BMW kidney grille, giving an oh-so-distinctive profile, frameless windows, standard full LED headlights and daytime running lights. Although optional, a panoramic moonroof enhances the design element. The M235i gets its very own version of the grille and more aggressive bumpers and also features a dark gray finish for the grille, front air inlet surrounds, lower side molding, mirror caps and trapezoidal exhaust tips.

A low, rounded roofline adds to the sporty feel and four frameless doors puts a modern-day spin on classic coupe styling.

Inside, the GC includes sport front seats, with standard leather upholstery and ambient lighting. Legroom is neck and neck with the 3 series, and trunk space is 12 cubic feet and a 40/20/40 split, and folding rear seatback is standard. BMW’s first-ever illuminated trim showcases what is considered a meticulous layout of the driver-oriented cockpit and the premium, sporty interior design of the 2 Series Gran Coupe. The cabin has the look and feel that is right in line with one’s expectations when it comes to luxury.

All in all, this new BMW presents a simple, driver-focused design that is highlighted by ambient interior lighting that illuminates both the dashboard and door panels. Standard features for the 228i trim include 17-inch multi-spoke wheels, LED headlamps and fog lights, satin aluminum exterior trim and high-gloss black grille slats, air intake surrounds, lower mirror caps and rear diffuser panel. The M235i trim adds 18-inch M wheels, extra aero features, Shadowline trim and Cerium Grey detailing.

Power packed
Both of the 2-series Gran Coupe models come equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 228 horsepower in the 228i and 301 horsepower in the M235i. Standard on both engines are all-wheel-drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Performance of the 228i model is expected to rival the A-class and the A3, with the M235i reaching 0-60 mph in just 4.6 seconds. An advanced handling system is brought forth through BMW’s Performance Control and ARB slip-controller technology that works together with the intelligent all-wheel-drive system to distribute power for significantly improved traction, amazing agility and the most advanced handling out there. This all-new vehicle has enough power for the vast majority of drivers, and the same holds true for braking and handling. The Gran Coupe instills confidence thanks to its distinct, underlying athleticism.

Drivers can effortlessly get the 228i up to highway speeds without even having to pin the pedal to the carpet. For those motorists with sporty inclinations, the M235i is their perfect match with suspension tweaks and power increases that result in a lively driver experience rooted in spirit.

Staying connected
The 2 Series Gran Coupe features an 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen which sits atop the dashboard, at a slight angel to make it easier for the driver to use. Navigation is a standard feature in this all-new model, but SiriusXM satellite radio, a wireless smartphone charging pad and a Harman/Kardon stereo system are presented as options. Apple CarPlay capability is standard, but Android Auto integration is not available. By choosing the optimal digital gauge display, drivers can replace the 2-series Gran Coupe’s analog gauges with a reconfigurable 10.25-inch digital display and replaces the standard infotainment screen with a secondary 10.25-inch unit.

This all-new Gran Coupe also features Back-Up Assistant, which, when activated, records up to 160 feet of your most recent steering inputs and retraces them. This will allow drivers to exit difficult situations and easily maneuver out of confined spaces.

A full-color Head-up Display predicts vital driving information including speed limit information, navigation guidance and more directly onto the windshield, just a glance away. A BMW stereo sound system with 10 speakers and a 205-watt amplifier comes at no extra cost, with the option to upgrade to the 464-watt Harmon surround system with 16 speakers.

Measuring up!
As far as dimensions go, the 2 Series Gran Coupe is 178.2 inches long, 70.9 inches wide and 55.9 inches tall. Its wheelbase measures 105.1 inches. By comparison, the GC is 8.2 inches longer and just 0.1 inches wider than the 1 Series. Also, its roof sits 0.6 inches closer to the ground, while the wheelbase is the same.
