Its specs/power!
Staring at a price tag of $56,395, the M50 is largely based on the 3- and 4-series, with its 188.3-inch length a few inches longer than the 3-series sedan. Its 112.8-inch wheelbase is also slightly longer. Furthermore, the M50’s center of gravity is 1.3 inches lower than the 3-series.
Power comes in the form of two electric motors (one at each axle) that takes the i4 M50 to a peak of 536 hp and 586 lb-ft of torque. It features an 81.5-kWh battery pack and, thanks to the M50’s suspension components, this electric sedan has a superb handling. It manages a range of up to 300 miles, carrying the vehicle on 19-inch wheels. This set up results in the vehicle’s ability to accelerate from 0-60 in about 3.7 seconds. As for torque, the M50 puts 386 pound-feet to the wheels. They achieve this performance using a motor on each axle, giving the M50 standard all-wheel drive. Torque is virtually instantaneous in electric vehicles using this design.
A look inside
The cabin of the i4 M50 is one rooted in luxury and comfort — while still focusing on sustainability. That is made clear in floor mats made from recycled fishing nets, and few rare earth metals even used in the production process. Other interior cues that speak to comfort and luxury include the availability of rose gold trim, white leather upholstery and light wood trim. Similar to the 3-series, this cabin will be spacious and accommodating to both drivers and passengers alike. This four-door features a coupe body style including a large rear lift gate that opens to reveal a large cargo area within, similar to the BMW 4-series Gran Coupe.
Available trims
The 2022 BMW i4, first revealed back in March 2021, will be available in two trims once it arrives in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2022. The M50 is the more potent of the pair, with a motor on each axle for standard all-wheel drive, making for a combined torque output of 586 lb-ft. The cheaper model, dubbed the i4 eDrive40, makes do with just one motor out back, rated at 335 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. Both cars get the same 83.9 kWh fifth-generation BMW battery pack, which the company claims has 40-percent more energy-dense cells versus the pack found in the i3 hatch. Range is estimated at 300 miles for the base car and 245 miles for the M50.
In addition to the straight-line performance of the i4, there is certainly much more to consider. The floor-mounted battery pack is a stressed member of the chassis, connected directly to the floor and the front subframe. There's also a bracing package with strut tower bars to ensure the most rigidity possible.
Both trims come standard with BMW's funky "lift-related" shock system that works to create linear damper force according to spring travel. There are air springs out back that self-level depending on the car's load. M50 models also get adaptive M suspension as standard, allowing the driver to adjust suspension stiffness to their preference on the fly.

The i4 M50 will have the special designation of being one of the first BMW’s to feature the company’s latest infotainment system and connectivity features. They include iDrive 8, which will operate through a 14.9-inch touchscreen that will be integrated with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. All of this will be presented on a huge curved display located on the dashboard. And, in addition to a rotary controller on the center console, the system will offer advanced voice commands and a myriad of popular features. That includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a 5G mobile capability.
Safety cues
Safety is first and foremost with all BMW’s and the M50 package is no different. For 2022, the i4 is presented with a variety of standard and optional driver-assistance technology. Such notable features include standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking as well as standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist. Rounding out the features is available adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology.
Warranty plus!
In addition to the regular competitive warranty that BMW is known for, the i4 will also have its battery components covered as well, likely for eight years or 100,000 miles. This vehicle comes equipped with a limited warranty that covers four years or 50,000 miles; a powertrain warranty covering eight years or 100,0000 miles and complimentary maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles.
