M's beginnings…
The BMW M was born on the track, literally. Back in 1972, what was once a division for BMW's racing team quickly morphed into an intense passion for many BMW enthusiasts. The Motorsport was created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which saw great success in the 1960s and 1970s. The performance on the track was second to none, and from that the M series came to be. The vehicles had a bigger engine, a bolder design and just the perfect balance of power and handling. The track-level performance, state-of-the art TwinTurbo technology and lighter body delivers greater than 100 horsepower per liter. It's a special kind of experience and has its very own identity.
M's exclusivity…
There are only certain vehicles that get the M designation, it's extreme power is also extremely limited. The M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics and exterior modifications that set them apart and mark their uniqueness among other counterparts.
These vehicles are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nurburgring racing circuit in Germany. They also feature a number of accessories and packages that are exclusive to the model. Those include the optional Sequential Sport Gearbox and exclusive styling like larger wheels and a body kit that makes them more distinctive than basic sport models.
M's exterior…
Stand out with M sport trim, which is made clear in subtle "M" badges dotted about the car, including on the wings, alloys, steering wheel and gearstick. The model also features a deeper, more gaping front air intake with wider side intakes. This results in a more purposeful looking car. Side skirts perfectly match the deeper front bumper and are flanked by larger alloy wheels. The modifications of these exclusive models help the vehicle corner better, as all good race cars do. The M models also can include a gloss black exterior trim, which gives a sleek, modern look. Exhaust tips also boast chrome finishers to enhance their look. M's interior…
There are a number of modifications made to the M models interior that makes it so appealing and unique. In specific, the steering wheel and gear knob have leather covers and in some cars in the series, there is full leather upholstery. Seats in the M are sportier and tend to hold you in place when taking those corners as if you are on a race track. Most of the engineers of M cars are race drivers themselves. They took a production car with all of the amenities and added to it all the performance of a real sports car, a race car.
