When it comes to the 2021 BMW M8 Gran Coupe, BMW’s grandest of the M8 competition vehicles, and the impressively fast 2021 Audi RS7 Sportback, neither is lacking in the looks department. Not only are these super sedans the top in their segment, but they are sleek, sexy and undoubtedly super-powered! See the differences when these two four-door models go head to head! These lookers are about to face off!

Power packed…

When it comes to power, the M8 and the RS7 have some differences. The BMW uses a 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 engine to make 617 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. By comparison, the Audi Sportback uses a 4.0 liter twin-turbo to bring forth 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.

Both of these vehicles are presented with the same ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox and Quattro all-wheel-drive. This means that both of these powerhouses can travel from 0-60 mph in record speed. The Gran Coupe is the quickest at 3.1 seconds for the standard car and 3.0 for the competition. The RS7, however, gets to that top speed in 3.6 seconds. Both can reach top speeds of 190 mph!

Tech savvy!

You can’t go wrong in choosing either of these vehicles, if technology is one of your main focuses in making your purchase. However, if you prefer a certain infotainment system, this is an area worth comparing.

The M8 features BMW’s latest and greatest iDrive 7 system, which is not only easy to use but responsive and highly configurable. It also includes a new artificial intelligence function, which is activated simply by saying “Hey, BMW.” From there, you will be able to access connected-car features. It comes with a 464 watt 16 speaker premium Harman Kardon surround sound system as standard. Drivers enjoy a 10.25 inch infotainment touchscreen display that sits in the center of the dash.

Considered top in the area of technology, Audi brings that moniker clearly forth in the RS7. It has the ability to integrate many screens due to its top-of-the-line MMI Touch Response system. This system is so popular that it was awarded the 2019 Shift Award for best in car technology from Roadshow.

The “look” outside

Both of these vehicles boast a sporty and aggressive appearance, including angular headlights, big grilles and large front air intakes. But if you choose to compare, then the Audi RS7 may inch ahead. That is because its sharp edges, crisp lines and stunning headlights give it a better-looking face.

However, when it comes to profile, the BMW has a significant edge. The RS7, due to its lift back tailgate, results in extra bulk at the rear. The M8 Gran Coupe is both sleek and muscular in appearance, with strong rear wheel arches and built-in decked spoiler. From the side, this car is all-out great looking! From the rear, the BMW also excels. While the Audi has an awesome light bar taillight and massive oval exhausts, the M8s slim taillights, quad exhausts and more muscular rear haunches result in a much sexier overall appearance. Also from behind can be seen the impressive bubbled carbon roof.

The “look” inside

While both the M8 and the RS7 have nice interior cabins, the RS7 is viewed as having a more “special” feel due to its dual touchscreen setup, honeycomb seat pattern, flat-bottomed steering wheel and impressive dash setup. It bests the BMW due to its Virtual Cockpit and RS-specific view, which is preferred over the M-specific view.

Inside, however, the BMW does indeed shine and is considered more solid than its rival. Beautifully crafted, it boasts multi-color adjustable ambient lighting, 16-way powered front M sorts seats, Merino leather upholstery and the list goes on. It is a clear mixture of sportiness and luxury.

Handling the supercar

When it comes to handling, BMW scores higher with its carbon-ceramic brakes which are simpler to moderate and natural in pedal feel. This results in far smoother and more consistent braking. When it comes to setting out on the open road, the BMW is more focused and considered more athletic than the Audi.

While all these differences are important to take note, for many, the choice comes down to price. The BMW’s opening price is about $130,000, and the Audi is about $115,000. Supercars in so many ways, the M8 and the RS7 are both leaders in their segment and the epitome of the top driving experience. See how these supercars stack up and make your choice!
