Muffler of a black BMW | Dave Walter BMWWe all love the purr of an engine, that sound you get when you rev it up. These BMWs, both past and present, have that awesome sound that is sure to turn heads.

E60 M5

The BMW E60 M5 is a driving machine. It was produced between 2005 and 2010 and was the world’s first production sedan to feature a V10 petrol engine.

If you’re looking for something that really hums when you put your foot down, look no further. The quad-exhaust vibrates beautifully as you accelerate from zero to 60 and gives all those within earshot an absolutely incredible treat. The rumble is deep. It’s not just all noise and no performance though. Under the hood of the E60, you get an S85 V10 engine that was specifically designed for the E60.

Z4 E89 GT3

The BMW Z4 GT3 is a roadster-style racecar that has an incredible roar. It was produced between 2009 and 2016 and was the first Z series to have a hardtop convertible option. It looks sleek and sounds even better.

With every gear change, you can enjoy that deep exhaust sound. The GT3 has a  4.4-liter, eight-cylinder engine that was originally in the BMW M3 GTS. This powerful engine produces roughly 379 kilowatts. There are three driving modes — comfort, sport, and sport+ — which change the throttle response and adjust the dampers. The sport+ mode gives you more power and even more revving sounds.

M3 E46 CSL

The BMW M3 E46 CSL is designed with sports cars in mind. CSL stands for coupe sport lightweight and the M3 E46 takes all of the joys of a racing car and puts it into a street car. The engine is 3.2 liters and is a naturally aspirated, double overhead camshaft. It has six cylinders and gets a whopping 360 horsepower and 273 pound-foot of torque. All of this power in such a lightweight vehicle means lots of speed and plenty of rich whirring sounds.

2018 M5 Sport

The newest addition to the M5 family, the 2018 M5 Sport, has a roaring exhaust that will no doubt keep you coming back for more. The M-Sport exhaust has a flap that opens and closes depending on which drive mode you are in. This means if you want to keep her quiet while driving through town, you can. Then when you hit the open highway you can have the flaps open up and release a sound that every car-lover dreams of.

Under the hood you’ve got a 4.4-liter V8 engine that offers drivers an incredible 600 horsepower. You can go from zero to 60 in 3.6 seconds. If you have a track to practice on, you can get up to 189 miles per hour.

F34 Gran Tourismo

The F34 Gran Tourismo is a BMW 3 Series that has a powerful engine and a beautiful roaring exhaust, all in the comfort of a Gran Tourismo-style hatchback. BMW started producing them in 2011. New 2017 models are currently available.  The newest models have a four-cylinder engine that offers 221 horsepower and 332 pound-foot of torque.
