What we know!
There are no changes to the powertrains in the G60 5 Series, besides one small adjustment. The 550e xDrive now charges at 11 kW instead of 7.4 kW, while the entry-level 530i and 530i xDrive both utilize a four-cylinder engine. That engine is good for developing 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. In terms of choices, a favorite has been identified as the 540i xDrive, which relies on the familiar B58 inline-six, making 375 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque.
Another choice is the plug-in hybrid 550 xDrive, which relies on the B58 engine yet supplements it with an electric motor. It delivers through that motor choice, a healthy 483 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. It is the quickest to jump from 0-60 mph in a BMW-estimated 4.1 seconds, and it also weighs in around 500 pounds. All of these 5 Series models are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
While these powertrains remain unchanged, it is expected that in the area of fuel economy and mpg, they will perform identically to last year’s model, with the rear-wheel drive 530i handling the best overall. It achieves 28 mpg city and 35 mpg highway, for a combined 31 mpg. Similarly, the xDrive models offer nearly the same fuel economy, dropping to 27 mph in the city. The inline-six powered 540i xDrive does experience fuel economy decreases, though, with the EPA estimating it will manage 28 mpg combined. Meanwhile, the 550e xDrive plug-in hybrid model is rated for 67 MPGe and gets around 33 miles of range on a full charge. This vehicle’s heavier curb weight factors into efficiency, with it getting 27 mpg overall.
Within the G60 5 Series is ample space and comfort, coupled with good ergonomics and a familiarity from past models. Two new interior upholstery options are presented, the stylish Taupe and Dark Violet over Atlas Gray, as well as new trim material choices. Those include a carbon fiber option that is sleek and reserved for M Sport models. Outside, a new Frozen Portimao Blue metallic color is presented. And, thanks to the ample trim choices, personalization is more likely here than in many other models. For example, for an extra $1,350, a Luxury Seating Package can be had, adding ventilated and multi-color front seats and heated
rear seats. Another option, at $600, is the attractive Sky Lounge Panoramic Roof on the 530i, adding a luxurious touch.
In terms of space, occupants will surely be pleased, with it more roomy than competitors like Audi and Mercedes Benz.
Technology and connectivity is also surely found here, similar to last year’s model, with no changes to iDrive or the interior layout. The ever-popular Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are still presented, with options like a Premium Package for $1,900 adding a head-up display, remote engine start, 360-degree cameras and more. Sound by Bowers & Wilkins is for the asking for an extra $950.
Key safety features are standard, with the 2026 5 Series presented with such benefits as lane keeping assist, blind-sport monitoring, frontal collision warning and rear cross-traffic monitoring. An additional $2,500 Drive Assistance Professional Package adds the “change lanes via glancing in a mirror” technology.
Pricing is competitive and starts at about $61,075 for the 530i, with an additional $2,300 for the xDrive model. The 540i xDrive is yours for $68,275, while the plug-in model will come in at about $76,000.
