What we know!
BMW has made it clear, the XM Label will be the lone trim level and one single model available for 2026. This came after BMW revealed back in 2024, when kicking off the XM Label Red, planned to be a regular, annual release of “Labels” as special editions of the XM plug-in hybrid sport SUV, that the “Red” name would be dropped and subsequent labels would continue to appear each year alongside regular XMs. Now mid-year in 2025, that special edition is no longer, with the XM Label the only trim level available on the 2026 XM.
This vehicle and sole trim comes with 738 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque under hood, between its 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine and electric motor. To this end, the XM Label remains BMW M’s most powerful production vehicle on sale currently. It is known to sprint from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, which is two tenths of a second faster than the automaker claims.
Top performance is undoubtedly found here, as is astonishing power and an advanced drive concept, upping the normally limited PHEV at 155 mph to 175 thanks to the M Driver’s package. BMW has also updated the throttle map, a move that addresses issues raised that the original XM’s throttle pedal response felt jumpy and made modulating acceleration difficult.
In addition, BMW is addressing the issue of speed changes. With the 2024 XM Label’s ability to plug in and charge, it really could have done with some faster charging to match the incredible top road speed it was capable of. But for 2026, the XM Label abandons last year’s 7.4-kW AC charge rate instead for a more competitive 11 kW. The battery’s net capacity remains at 19.2 kWh, thus plugging into a Level 2 charger should result in faster refills. And, based on the 2026 XM’s pack voltage and capacity unchanged from the 2024 version, it is expected that the XM Label will have the same amount of all-electric driving range of 31 miles at speeds of up to 87 mph.
This vehicle will also boast impressive stopping power thanks to a set of six-piston fixed front calipers that clamp down on M Compound brake pads and rotors. The rears will use single-piston floating calipers on M Compound equipment with the overall body riding on a set of BMW Adaptive M dampers and coil springs with double-wishbone front and five-link rear systems.
Suspension will expertly control a set of 23-inch 1096 M alloy wheels measuring 23x10 front and 23x11 rear with high-performance 275/35R23 and 315/30R23 tires, respectively. These new rollers will also feature a new Jet Black finish option, which join brand-spanking new exterior colors for the body like Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic. Add to that a new “welcome light” animation, and this vehicle is nothing short of a standout – even in the dark!
Occupants within will relish in three new colored themes through the BMW Individual program, with Night Blue leather and Vintage Coffee accents, as well as Silverstone leather and Black accents. Comfort cushions in the rear sets will also match the selected leather surfaces, including the Individual leather options, rounding it out with a consistent and luxurious look and feel. Beyond this, exterior amenities remain the same as those found on the 2024 XM Label.
Pricing is unknown at this time, but expected to be announced closer to its production start, which is slated for later this summer in August at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.
