What we know!
As if this true driver’s coupe could not get any more appealing, a Track Package is poised to arrive next year, with teaser images unveiling a massive rear wing that is a sure sign of greatness! While many details are still forthcoming, we do know that there is also a more prominent front lip to be expected, as well as redesigned intakes. Changes that we cannot see at this point, those hidden underneath, include suspension tweaks, chassis improvements and better breaks.
Under hood of the M2 is the automaker’s 3.0-liter inline-six engine which delivers 473 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission, and even more in the M2 CS. The 827 M Wheels, borrowed from the M2 CS, now feature a two-tone finish instead of the Bronze gold. But there is more to come with this package, and all will be well worth the wait, including the outcome of lessons learned during the development of the M2 Racing.
According to the automaker, this new M2 will be “pushing BMW M Performance parts to the limit,” which makes it a bit fuzzy as to whether BMW will offer this as a package or as individual upgrades one can pick and choose from.
What we do know is that an M2 equipped with the Track Package will remain fully street-legal. That comes, though, with some compromises in the area of road comfort due to these performance upgrades. It may be interesting to see how this translates when it comes to the Nurburgring lap time, with the standard M2 posting a 7:38 in April of 2023, and the CS version clocking an impressive 7:25 this past April, which resulted in the record claimed in the compact car class. Those desiring the ultimate track-focused version may opt for the M2 Racing, although it swaps the inline-six for a four-cylinder engine. It is also not street-legal and comes with just a single seat. The passenger seat is only added as an option.
What is also unclear is if the Track Package will be compatible with both the M2 variants. For example, if the enhancements work on the Competition Sport, lap times around the Nordschleife could decrease even further.
Overall, the M2 offers a thrilling driving experience, prioritizing performance at each and every turn. With next-level power and extraordinary design, the M2 has it all. Rear-wheel drive, standard Active M Differential and standard Adaptive M Suspension make the new M2 both agile and easy to command. Add to that the ability to brake quickly due to Standard M Compound Brakes (offered with red or blue calipers), and there is just that much more to love.
The M2 also boasts a modern, yet minimalist interior design, complete with a new M leather steering wheel that features a unique red 12 o’clock M badge and M-color stitching. Or, there is the option of the M Alcantara steering wheel.
Technology also abounds, with the M2 presented with a variety of smart safety features, a BMW Curved Display and plenty of options to integrate one’s personal tech into what is truly a future-facing sports car.
Its bold design is also made clear with individual, eye-catching paint choices, including Grigio Telesto, Voodoo Blue, Twilight Purpose and Java Green.
