Its got the look!
Starting with the first glance, this trim is impressive! That style is made clear first and foremost between the headlights in the center of the front end, with an illuminated kidney grille that is eye-catching to say the least! The two elements that comprise the grille stand out clearly from the surrounding surface, and extending within them are horizontal grille bars. These are typically linked to high-performance models from BMW M GmbH. The double surrounds of the kidneys serve to accentuate their octagonal contours, a design element that is worth noting and which sets this trim apart.
At the outer border of each kidney is a black high-gloss color, with an inner surround featuring contour lighting resulting in the first-ever unbroken light ring. A bold confidence at night is surely the result and truly unmistakable!
A sculptural headliner with three-dimensional prism structure is unique as is the photo mount-style border and 100 LED units for that perfect illumination. Power packed!
M power is found here, brought forth in the plug-in hybrid drive with a top system output of 350 kW (475 hp) and 700 Nm of torque. A purposeful and precise interaction of the 145 kW (197 hp) electrical machine and the powerful inline 6-cylinder petrol engine results in a strong power delivery. To that end, the 50e reaches speeds of 100 mph in just 5.1 seconds. The power in the XM 50e is delivered to all four wheels through a standard eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with various driving modes including Drivelogic and hybrid module.
Despite this power output, some critics have not sung its praises. That is because the 50e is still a full-fledged M model, so more power was expected with a lackluster output described by many. While its speed is not slow by any means, especially for a large SUV such as this, the standard XM sprints in just 4.1 seconds. This 50e had been expected to boast a powertrain of 592 lb.ft, but instead the supposedly performance-oriented model, with both an engine and electric motor, makes less power than some vehicles that have only the 3.0-liter engine, such as the M3.
When it comes to its electric range, the 50e uses the same 22.1 kWh battery pack as the M760e, which is enough for 52 miles between two charges. This represents a better picture and considered a great attribute of the trim.
