Anticipation is building!

The sportiest electric sedan out there and the first all-electric 5 Series vehicle — the BMW i5 — is slowly being revealed! Expected to debut for the 2025 model year and with a starting price of about $62,000, the i5 is a representation and combination of all that is award-winning from this German automaker. With single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive layouts, the i5 is chock full of power. An entirely new model for 2025, even more refinement and power is expected — and celebrated!

Here’s what we know so far!

— It is anticipated that the electric i5, to be revealed in October of this year, will be similar to the 5 series outwardly, but very different underneath. Mechanical hardware and electrical architecture will be like the i4, although more refined and powerful.

— This executive saloon will also be available with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid engines in the normal 5 series.

— The same infotainment tech as the iX SAV is expected to be presented in the i5.

— There are various trim levels for the i5, including the base eDrive40 rear-drive model, an all-wheel-drive version of the 40 and the M50 and M70 all-wheel drive versions.

— The range topper is brought forth in the M70, expected to be presented with elevated equipment and functionality including faster charge times, active steering, larger 21-inch wheels, suspension tweaks and a sportier M-car cosmetic treatment.

— There’s even plans for an i5 M down the line, an electric equivalent of the M5.

Although there is not much leaked yet on this vehicle, images of a few exposed surfaces unveil the electric M performance saloon with matte paint, blue brake calipers and M-specific side mirrors.

Also, an i5 Touring, set to be revealed next spring, is expected to be extremely popular, and is essentially a 5 Series Touring with an electric powertrain. This vehicle, thanks to BMW’s newest battery and charging technology, is expected to provide ample power and range to accommodate just about any lifestyle.

While BMW plans to offer the i5 in a few different flavors, the range will likely begin with a single-motor i5 40, which will get a version of the 532 hp bi-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain fitted to the iX SUV. That output will result in the electric M-lite i5 being as powerful as the current M5.

And, although much is to be revealed in the coming months, it is certain that the i5 will be all that drivers have come to expect from BMW’s EV lineup, a thrilling, sustainably designed vehicle that is a perfect blend of luxury, technology and power! Anticipation is building and there’s surely a reason why!
