BMW M2 | Dave Walter BMW | Akron, OHIntroduced in 2017, the M2 is BMW’s new entry-level car. Fans were looking forward to the new baseline standard that the model would set ever since it was announced. Now that’s it’s finally here, all sorts of discerning luxury sport drivers confirm that the BMW M2 is the ideal starting sports car. Read on to see all the ways that the M2 has pushed its class forward.

Supreme Performance

The M2 uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, a daring mix for a car that weighs under 3,500 pounds. This powertrain generates 365 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque. When properly equipped, the M2 can go from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, and it easily revs up to 7,000 RPM. No longer are speed and capability of this kind locked behind far more expensive, flagship vehicles. Its electric motor is the N55 seen on the heavier M235i, but it has an upgraded oil cooling system, a specialized forged-steel crankshaft, and upgraded crank bearings and pistons.

Perfectly Adorned Cabin

Less weight and more power is the philosophy with much of the 2017 M2, but that doesn’t mean it skimps on interior comfort and features. Blue and red contrast stitching and carbon fiber-trim adorn the cabin, creating a style that is both upscale and down-to-earth without too much flash or pomp. Carbon-fiber friction lining at the stick shift puts the driver further in the moment. The M Laptimer App uses an integrated GoPro camera to calculate lap times on race courses and provides in-depth driver data right from the steering column.

Head-Turning Style

The 2017 M2 has a simple and assertive look that draws eyes everywhere you go, with particular emphasis at the front. The body is wide with gracious inward curves at the bottom of the side doors, and the back features quad exhaust and brake lights that blend at tips into the edge of the trunk spoiler. The aggressive chiseling, wide headlights, and tight double grille give the M2 a true low-rider style mixed with several drag racing elements. The double-spoke 19-inch forged aluminum wheels with durable summer tires tie it all together.

Practical Optional Tech

BMW offers several key optional features to better customize the M2 to your needs. Drivers can opt for a heated steering wheel, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, and much more. Wireless device charging is also available, along with reliable high-speed Wi-Fi hotspot capability. There’s even a seven-speed M Double Clutch automatic transmission with two gearboxes, which is great for drivers who want to switch to manual and automatic shifting as they please.

This new addition to the M lineup is a historic mark on BMW’s legacy of performance power. It’s got everything that matters beyond the basics as well, from comfort to design and entertainment. Its devotion to power and the driver experience makes it a terrific luxury car for those who put the essentials at top priority.
