We’ve got you covered!

The last thing you want when purchasing a vehicle is to worry about its future condition. Thanks to BMW’s Certified Pre-Owned program, that fear can be off the table. This program essentially is presenting a vehicle that has been inspected, certified and warrantied by a certified BMW dealer. To qualify for the CPO warranty, the vehicle must be in good condition— peace of mind all its own. And, while this is not your typical warranty, it is a warranty nonetheless! See the ups — and some downs — of this option!

Here’s more…

How it works!

If the vehicle is eligible, it goes through what is called a CPO certification process. This process involves making sure everything is in working condition and that there is no substantial damage to the vehicle. How well it is maintained is also factored in.

The list that BMW adheres to when making this check up is very lengthy, so if your vehicle makes the cut, it is fairly certain it is already in very good condition. While this is not a guarantee, though, it is a means to greatly reduce the likeliness of your vehicle having future adverse conditions down the road.

The warranty!

In general, BMW’s come with a four-year/50k-mile factory warranty on their vehicles. When you purchase a CPO BMW, it includes one year of additional coverage beyond this, with your coverage essentially for five years and unlimited mileage.

It is important to note that this unlimited one-year warranty is tacked onto the end of the car’s original new-car warranty. an example is if you purchase a CPO BMW with two years and 20,000 miles remaining on its new-car warranty, you get the benefit of the rest of that new-car warranty plus an additional one year following that but unlimited mileage. Important to note that while this is an added warranty, it is not an extension of the original one and therefore does not cover as much, including certain water and tear items like shock dampers, suspension bushings, and engines drive belts.

Another important factor to consider is that the new-car’s three year, 36,000 mile maintenance program does not transfer to the CPO purchaser. Instead, the car loses its maintenance program the moment it is certified for the CPO status.

Making your choice!

Whether or not the CPO BMW is the right fit for you depends on various factors. If cost is your lead consideration, then it is important to note that you will spend a bit extra on a CPO vehicle than you would a normal BMW, but with the warranty and the checks and balances it gets through — on top of the extra warranty — it is ultimately worth it. Also, any maintenance done to the vehicle has been done through a certified BMW dealer, who is in tune with all its specifics as opposed to a regular mechanic.

The good stuff!

When it comes to the benefits of the CPO warranty and the overall program, the list is lengthy. Not only will drivers enjoy a certain level of confidence thanks to their BMW Certified vehicle and its additional warranty, but they will get the benefit of comprehensive inspections completed by BMW trained technicians, genuine BMW parts, 24/7 roadside assistance, plus more! Within the road-side assistance for up to six years from the vehicle’s original in-service date, there are no mileage limits with this boasting such key helpful services as battery jump starts, tire change assistance, lock-out services, fuel delivery and towing to your nearest authorized BMW service center.

There is also special financing offers and extended vehicle protection from BMW Financial Services as well as a vehicle history report provided at no cost and the perk of three months of free SiriusXM Satellite Radio. BMW also provides trip interruption benefits depending on the type of vehicle disablement and will reimburse drivers up to $1,000 per incident for things such as hotel accommodations and short-term alternative transportation.

Vehicle owners also take advantage of technical support known as the Advanced Mobility Group, which utilizes a dispatcher to bring forth telematics technology which aims at analyzing vehicle data and warning messages to advise drivers over the phone or recommend a service visit.

What the CPO covers!

To be eligible for this CPO program, vehicles must have more than 300 miles but less than 60,000 miles on the odometer. To qualify, these vehicles undergo a stringent evaluation by a BMW Certified technician.

At the hands of BMW-trained technicians who utilize only genuine BMW replacement parts, your CPO and its warranty covers a plethora of items. These include: engine, transmission, steering, electrical, heating and cooling system, fuel system and final drive assembly and propeller shaft.

Vehicles must be serviced at an authorized BMW repair facility, with the CPO warranty also transferable to a subsequent owner.

What the CPO does NOT cover!

While the BMW Certified Protection Plan covers defects in materials and workmanship, it is not an extension of the factory warranty, so the coverage is slightly different from the new car warranty. It is also NOT a maintenance plan, therefore not covering certain things such as: normal maintenance or upkeep of items such as brake pads, rotors, shoes, drums and filters. Also not covered are items such as spark plugs, wiper blades, batteries, lubricants, tires, tire balancing and rotation and wheel alignment.

Excluded from the coverage are also suspension-related components such as ball joints, bushings, coil springs, control arms and brackets. Also body and interior components of the vehicle, such as body seals and gaskets, body panels, upholstery, trim and fasteners are exempt.

Any non-original equipment parts, components and accessories are also not covered.

Despite these drawbacks, there is much to like about this program, mainly the rigorous inspection your vehicle will undergo. Yes you are getting a used car, but it is a used car that is in very good operating condition and one that is protected for an entire year after the factory warranty ends — regardless of mileage.

Peace of mind is certainly found here should you decide to make a pre-owned BMW your next purchase and take advantage of the CPO warranty. You will be protected against most issues due to the fact factory defects typically occur within the first few years of service life. We’ve got you covered — There’s no doubt about it!
