Companions on the journey

If your vehicle had a face, a voice and a personality, what would it be? You’ll soon find out! BMW introduces the ultimate in a digital companion — the new i Vision Dee, a color-changing concept car revealed recently. A visionary concept which is captivating to say the least, the i Vision Dee (which stands for Digital Emotional Experience) boasts an exterior that is sleek and streamlined and which is perfectly juxtaposed with digital features. A true portal to the digital realm, just by touching one of the four Shy-Tech sensors within, everything from augmented reality scenes to full virtual worlds are for the asking. See what this journey holds!

Here’s more…

A look inside/out!

Starting with the cabin, one is greeted by their very own personal avatar on the driver’s side window, one of the many ways Dee immerses you in the digital experience. Listen to Dee’s voice inside the vehicle, where she can speak, listen and understand your wishes and commands.

One of the many highlights, the windshield within also acts as a screen-think virtual reality minus the headset. Within, the Dee is void of physical switchgear, which is purposeful in that it makes the driver use his or her voice to give commands. There is a steering wheel with vertical spokes and touch pads, but most of the focus and attention is on the windshield, which serves as a giant digital display. Instead of a gauge cluster or center touchscreen, find all your info spread across the entire width of the front window. Imagine that! With this windshield content, drivers have the ability to control the amount and type through touch-sensitive controls on the dash. This is referred to as the Mixed Reality Slider which includes five different levels like analog, driving information and more.

Within those settings are various immersive levels into augmented reality. Some of the features include the top setting serving to dim all of the windows and then transform the inside to a full digital environment.

The concept’s design is purposeful, bearing little resemblance to anything in the automaker’s current lineup. Boasting body panels that change colors, the i Vision Dee is an example of what the road ahead is for BMW and the future of the automaker’s technology offerings.

The concept has the ability to shift beyond shades of gray, with the chameleon-like sedan presented with up to 32 different colors. Within them are endless options for different patterns, each of which is controlled on the car’s individual E Ink panels.

“Facing” the facts!

Changing colors isn’t the only unique quality the i Vision Dee possesses! The concept has the ability to make faces on its digital interpretation of BMW’s kidney grille. Expressions of astonishment and visual approval, among others, done! This concept does it all!

In addition to the new grille’s shape, the concept incorporates a version of the Hofmeister kink, but with a digital twist. Inspired by the 2002 model where hints of the sedan’s proportions are made clear, the i Vision is typically pretty plain looking when it’s not bold in its crazy colors!

In an effort to make the car more personalizable, it is designed to display an image of the driver’s avatar on the side window when approached. Doors also open automatically to offer greeting whenever the car senses its driver approaching. Through all these visual elements, BMW aims at forging a closer connection between people and machines — a philosophy that is truly forward thinking!

While there is no doubt this is a concept, BMW stands by the fact that some of the features in the i Vision Dee will be on some production models as soon as 2025. One of those features that drivers can expect and anticipate is the head up display that spans the entire width of the windshield.

The future of car building is found here as is a complete transformation of past icons. Fully digitized and interactive with the ability to convey facial expressions, the i Vision Dee is your very own Companion on the Journey! See what the future has in store!
