Livin’ large!

When it comes to large cars, BMW has you covered and has won top awards in this area to boot! The latest nod comes from the esteemed jurors who comprise the 2024 Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year. They placed the BMW 5 Series in an award-winning category, and there is clear reasons why! This luxury sedan, available with both combustible engines as well as a fully electric model, has been named the best model in the “Large Car” class. With this award under belt, the G60 now has the chance to secure the ultimate in titles on March 8 when the overall WWCOTY winner is unveiled. See what’s in store in the weeks ahead!

Here’s more….

What else we know!

In the trek to the top honor, imparted as awards that have been bestowed for the past 14 years, BMW will face in competition the Volvo EX30 considered the Best Family Car; Kia’s EV9, dubbed the Best SUV; the Volkswagen Amarok (Best 4×4 and Pick-up); and the Aston Martin DB12, found to be the Best Exclusive Car. A total of 62 candidates competed to cinch these five category titles. It is important to note that the only other BMW making the initial list was the XM, considered the automaker’s flagship SUV which is known for its eccentric styling and powerful plug-in hybrid setup.

Sitting on the panel of jurors from WWCOTY are 75 women who are noted car journalists spanning 52 countries and five continents. This is the only all female jury in the automotive industry. The vehicles which became eligible to compete for awards are those that had to premiere between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2023 and also be available on at least two continents.

This is certainly not the first accolade for the German automaker. The iX won the “Best Large SUV” in 2020 with the 8 Series taking the “Best Luxury Car” award in 2017. The i8 earned “Best Eco-Friendly Car” in 2015 and the 3 Series F30 was “Best Family Car” in 2012. A year earlier, the 5 Series F10 cinched the “Best Luxury Car” title.

For the 2024 honor and after a final round of judging, the award will be presented fittingly via YouTube on International Women’s Day, which is March 8. All of the vehicles selected to be considered represent pure excellence in their segments in the areas of safety, driving, technology, comfort, efficiency, environmental impact and value for the money.

It is important to note that finding these winners or filling these categories was not an easy task for the jurors, as the process was marked by a market in continuous evolution toward more efficient and sustainable models.

“Voting was not easy due to the extraordinary level of candidates,” Marta Garcia, president of the WWCOTY, said, and no vote was given at random. All were the result of clear and stringent criteria including demanding driver’s tests, detailed analysis and challenging studies of the competition. This and this alone is why WWCOTY is a benchmark for and coveted by millions of buyers around the world.

These chosen five are truly unbeatable models and all represent pure excellence in their respective categories.

In specific and offered with a full range of engines, the BMW 5 Series includes for the first time a fully electric version, as well as a family variant. This vehicle, in its eighth generation, features cutting-edge and advanced technology, and is presented with a cabin that is extremely spacious and comfortable. It is ideally suited for its occupants and is the brand’s first-ever model to incorporate a fully vegan interior as standard.

Stay tuned to March 8 when the winners are announced! The best of the best is found here, including fittingly BMW’s 5 Series, which is truly livin’ large!
